Men’s soccer falls to Charleston

Dion Peters scored three goals and assisted on another to lead University of Charleston to a 5-1 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles also got a goal and an assist from Rob Vincent and a goal from Michale Osuji.

Shepherd’s goal came in the 73rd minute when sophomore Abel Setegn (Arakilo, Ethiopia/Winston Churchill {MD}) scored on an assist from junior forward Shane Lowery (Boonsboro, MD/Boonsboro).

The Golden Eagles had a 12-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery) had four saves for the Rams, while Sean Teepen had a save for the Golden Eagles.

Shepherd falls to 6-9-1, 3-5-0 in conference play, while University of Charleston improves to 10-6-0, 7-1-0. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a 3 p.m. contest.
