SU volleyball downs Ohio Valley

Shepherd University handed Ohio Valley a 3-0 setback in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams earned a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 win.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Wilkins (Winchester, VA/Sherando) had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs to lead the Rams. Sophomore middle hitter Melanie Lewis (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added nine kills, while freshman right side Valerie Bour (Willoughby Hills, OH/Willoughby South) had nice all-around effort with six kills and match-highs of 17 digs and four aces.

Senior setter Lauren Jeschelnik (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) recorded 28 assists and seven digs, while freshman setter/defensive specialist Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) contributed 10 digs. Freshman middle hitter Kayla Motheral (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) added five kills and tied Bour for match-high aces honors with four.

Shepherd improves to 14-12 overall, 7-4 in WVIAC play, while Ohio Valley falls to 4-20, 1-10. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to California (Pa.) for a 7 p.m. match.
