Women’s soccer blanks Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University blanked Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, in WVIAC women’s soccer action at Point Stadium on Wednesday.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 71:24 mark when senior forward Brianna Hines (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) scored on a feed from freshman defender Kaitlyn Socks (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown).

The Rams took a 2-0 lead when senior midfielder Ashley Bryant (Waldorf, MD/Westlake) scored on a pass from senior defender Tiffany Banks (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson) in the 88th minute.

Freshman defender Kelsey N. Smith (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) scored an unassisted tally in the final minute of the contest to complete the scoring.

Shepherd had a 25-7 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goal keeper Tessa Jones (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) had two saves for the Rams, while Victoria Der Vanik had seven saves for the Lady Cats.

Shepherd improves to 8-7-2 overall, 5-2-2 in WVIAC action, while Pitt-Johnstown falls to 3-12-0, 1-8-0. The Rams, who are tied for 10th place in the latest (Oct. 25) NSCAA NCAA II Atlantic regional poll, await word on seeding for the upcoming WVIAC Tournament.
