SU requests increase in funds

By Staff | Oct 28, 2011

On Oct. 13, Shepherd University President Suzanne Shipley sent a letter to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin formally requesting a $500,000 increase in the school’s operational appropriations to put towards the construction of a campus parking garage.

In September, university and state officials said that state bonds could not be distributed to the university to fund the parking garage because it is considered an auxiliary facility, one which can cover its own costs.

So, they have been looking for other ways to cover construction costs.

The day after Shipley sent the letter to Tomblin, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Chancellor Brian Noland was in town attending a forum on campus. He said he had spoken in great detail with Tomblin since he had been officially elected to office on Oct. 4 regarding the parking garage.
