The Shepherd University women’s soccer team (8-7-1, 5-2-2 WVIAC) secured the three seed in the WVIAC Women’s Soccer tournament with a 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday. The Rams will face the sixth seed University of Charleston (5-9-2, 4-3-2 WVIAC) at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 31 at the Shepherd Soccer Field.
The Rams will host a home playoff game for the first time since 2007. Shepherd and Charleston tied 0-0 in Shepherdstown in the regular season matchup on October 22.
The Rams are coached by Jonathan Thayil who is in his first season of directing the women’s soccer team. The women’s team finished ninth in the WVIAC last year with a 3-13 overall mark and 1-8 in the WVIAC. This season’s third place finish ties the highest ever mark for women’s soccer as the 2005 team also finished the regular season in third place and with five WVIAC wins. Thayil is also head coach for the Shepherd men’s soccer team and has directed that team for five seasons.
