Vehicle and Pedestrian Collision on N.Duke
BREAKING NEWS– At approximately 4 p.m. Friday, area emergency personnel responded to a vehicle and pedestrian collision at the corner of N. Duke and High St. in Shepherdstown on Shepherd University’s campus, where a driver reportedly struck a female student.
The student, who has not yet been identified, suffered a “visible head injury” and was found unconscious at the scene.
According to Shepherdstown Police Chief Ransom, who was the first to respond to the call, the student was struck by the vehicle traveling southbound on Route 480, while crossing at the university crosswalk between East and West campuses.
The pedestrian has been transported by helicopter to a nearby emergency services facilities. The driver, who is reportedly elderly, was also transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The area was temporarily shut down and traffic has been re-routed.
