Michael F. Taylor

Michael Frank Taylor, 71, of Shepherdstown, WV, passed away on April 4, 2018.

Michael was an extremely proud and loving father, husband and dear friend to many in the Shepherdstown area. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Hoxton) Taylor, of 48 years; daughter, Anna (Taylor) McGrath, and son-in-law, Paul McGrath; daughter, Leah Michael Taylor; brother, Peter Adrian Taylor; a niece and three nephews; and many extended family members. He was excitedly anticipating the arrival of his first granddaughter in July of this year.

Michael was born on March 26, 1947, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Pete and Juanita (Joseph) Taylor. He started his working life as an aerial photographer, capturing skiers from helicopters in the ski resorts of Colorado. After he was married, he moved to West Virginia and worked as a very well-respected general contractor for 41 years, building custom homes and restoring old, historic residences. He was an active member of the Shepherdstown community, volunteering and serving as a trustee on the Board of McMurran Hall, Shepherd University and as a member of the Shepherdstown Historic Landmarks Commission. When he wasn’t tending to the farm where he lived, he loved surf-fishing for bluefish at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was also very passionate about his 1959 Chevrolet El Camino and enjoyed attending car shows with his friends and family.

Michael will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV, and a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church to honor his memory will be scheduled for a time in the near future. In lieu of memorial flowers, a donation can be made in his name to Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown or the Global Lyme Alliance at www.globallymealliance.org.

Arrangements by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
