LEETOWN — The ever-popular pageants to crown Miss Jefferson County Fair, Little Miss Jefferson County and Junior Miss Jefferson County brought many to the fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, to see which of the many contestants would win the crowns.

Saturday evening’s competition featured 22 girls vying for the title of Miss Jefferson County Fair. At the end of the competition, 14-year-old Leah Fellers, of Charles Town, was crowned the victor. Fellers is the daughter of Brian and Megan Horton and is a ninth grader at Washington High School.

While she was excited about the win, Fellers said she loves everything about the fair and is looking forward to supporting the community, not only at the fair, but also throughout the year.

“I like to be a role model for the younger girls,” Fellers said.

Runners-up in the competition include fourth runner-up Samantha Caminiti, third runner-up Allison Dodson; second runner-up Kaylee Cook and first runner-up Ashley Martin.

Sunday’s spectators at the Little Miss Jefferson County Fair competition saw 64 young ladies between the ages of four and seven line up to parade across the stage before the three-judge panel. After narrowing the group down to the top 20, then to the top five, the judges pronounced Blair Ellwein the winner of the crown.

Ellwein, seven, is the daughter of Jayson and Brandi Ellwein, of Charles Town.

“I’m so excited to have fun at the fair,” Ellwein said after her win, adding that one of her favorite things about the week is wearing pretty dresses that twirl around.

Ellwein was joined by the runners-up in the contest. The fourth runner-up was Vivian Titus; third runner-up was Isabella Conner, second runner-up was Taryn Dorsey and first runner-up was Karoline Lavely.

Later Sunday evening, the crowd gathered once again, as 41 contestants vied for the title of Junior Miss Jefferson County. At the end of the evening, 11-year-old Hannah Storey, of Ranson, daughter of Rusty and Megan Storey, received the crown. A sixth grader at Wildwood Middle School, Storey said that one of her favorite parts of the fair are the animals, especially the horses.

“It means the world to me to win,” Storey said after receiving her crown. “I was Little Miss five years ago.”

She also said she is looking forward to meeting a lot of new people during the week, as she fulfills her duties.

Joining Storey at the end of the evening were fourth runner-up Braelyn Carbone; third runner-up Riley Vecchio; second runner-up Averie Gallhan and first runner-up Ella White.

Ellwein, Storey and Fellers worked throughout the week presenting ribbons, presiding over the livestock judging and participating in many of the competitions. The three were easily recognizable in their sashes and crowns.

The girls’ duties won’t end with the fair. They will participate in activities throughout the remainder of the year, including parades, ribbon cuttings and other events.
