SHEPHERDSTOWN — Daisy Troop 15099 steadily collected school supplies during the entire month of August and beginning of September, as part of the council-wide School Supply Service Drive. Initiated by Girls Scouts of the Nation’s Capital, the drive encouraged troops to collect much-need supplies for their local schools.

Troop 15099 collected 351 items that included pencils, crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, markers, scissors, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, boxes of tissues and other miscellaneous items. The troop of 12 girls, some new and some returning from previous years, worked hard to gather such a significant number of items to be donated.

The supplies were presented to Shepherdstown Elementary School, specifically through counselor Laura Colbert, who was surprised and pleased to receive so many items for use by the students.

“This troop of girls was so excited for another opportunity to give back to the community and to embody part of the Girl Scout Law, ‘Make the world a better place,'” said troop leader Angelina Gray.

Gray added that the Girl Scouts are currently inviting more girls to join a new troop. For those who would like more information, contact Gray at gstroop15099@gmail.com.

Looking ahead, Troop 10599 is working to organize a free outdoor movie night at Morgan’s Grove Park. The movie, “Spirit Untamed,” will be featured. The event will be held in conjunction with the Shepherdstown Community Club and will allow for social distancing in the outdoor setting. The date and time will be publicized sometime in the near future.
