SHEPHERDSTOWN — A holiday luncheon to raise funds for the upkeep of Morgan’s Grove Park turned out to be a great success on Saturday afternoon, as it included a silent auction, as well as the luncheon.
Held in the War Memorial Building, the Jingle & Mingle Christmas Luncheon featured a choice of soup, sandwich, chips, cookies and beverage.
The auction featured unique gift baskets, including things like Mountaineer popcorn, honey and even his-and-her walking sticks.
To entertain those in attendance, the Jefferson County Community Choir performed a variety of holiday favorites.
“Judy Pharr does a marvelous job leading the choir,” said Jennifer Wabnitz, president of the Shepherdstown Community Club that owns Morgan’s Grove Park. “She got the crowd all fired up with her fun stories and history of the music.”
Made up of 18 singers, the choir raises money for nonprofit organizations and schools throughout Jefferson County. The choir performs a series of concerts in the spring and another series in December. There are no auditions required to become a member of the choir, and Pharr is always looking for new members.
As the attendees enjoyed the food, music and holiday decor, they were also part of a successful afternoon that raised just over $1,000 for the park.
Wabnitz said, based on the success of this year’s event, the luncheon will become an annual event.
