SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — In conjunction with National Parks and Recreation Month, Jefferson County Parks & Recreation is offering a Friday night children’s entertainment series through the month of July.
The kickoff event for the series took place this past Friday night, featuring the magic of Michael Perrello, with Perrello’s Starts and Stripes Magic Show.
The series is being made possible, in part by a grant from the Jefferson County Youth Board, a continual supporter of parks and recreation activities in the county. Through the financial support of the department’s Youth Board, the month-long series will be presented at no cost to attendees.
“Since opening the Amp in 2019, one of our goals was to offer a children’s entertainment series,” said Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Director Jennifer Myers.
“When we offered a children’s concert as part of the 2021 Levitt series, the support was overwhelming,” Myers said. “We needed to make this series happen sooner than later.”
The series will run each Friday evening through the month of July. Tony M, who performed during the Levitt concert series last year, will take the stage tonight, followed on July 15 by the Rainbow Rock Band. The Family Glow DJ Dance Party, with Shenandoah Entertainment, will bring their music to the Amp on July 22. Closing out the month is a movie night, featuring “Luca.” The movie will be presented by the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library.
“Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is always happy to welcome additional sponsors and partners,” said Becki Zaglifa, community development coordinator for Jefferson County Parks & Recreation. “We are extremely grateful to the Jefferson County Youth Board, the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Library and all other supporters of our programs and community events.”
It is through the partnerships and sponsorships made with Jefferson County Parks & Recreation that many activities are available, including multiple movie nights through the summer, as well as a variety of other events and activities.
“Parks & Rec [sic] is very broad and encompasses so much and it is important to us to give the community a little bit of everything,” Myers said. “This series is a big part of that.”
