MARTINSBURG — On Friday, KVC West Virginia Behavioral Health Services held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, to celebrate the opening of their new office in Martinsburg.

For around 50 years, KVC has provided behavioral health services to families throughout the country. Specifically, KVC West Virginia helps families who are facing mental health challenges, as well as children who have suffered abuse or neglect. They provide support and other services to help them through difficult times in their lives. They provide in-home therapy, CSED services, Wraparound services and information on foster care.

“Helping people is a part of our mission,” Regional Director Sarah Marshall said.

Marshall has worked for a total of 10 years in the social work field. Though she left after seven years and came back, she is passionate about helping people and giving them what they need.

“We want to make a difference,” Marshall said. “It’s not just a job.”

The grand opening celebration was the result of Aetna Better Health of West Virginia seeing the need for services within the area and , and teaming up with KVC to create a new office to help the families in need. Having a special event to celebrate the opening of the new office will help the organization get its name out and sets the tone for people within the community, according to Marshall.

“It helps let everyone know that we are here to make a difference,” Marshall said.

KVC Health Systems President and CEO Jason Hooper and KVC West Virginia President Brent Lemon were both present at the event to welcome guests and celebrate the new office. Many event attendees were able to connect with each other and enjoy refreshments, as well as take a tour of the office space.

Bringing together a new team to work together can be challenging, Marshall said, but those involved are eager to work together to help others and serve the different families in the community.

“It’s nice, because we all have different backgrounds,” Wraparound agent Misty Huchins said. “We can all bring our experiences and work together to help others.”
