SHEPHERDSTOWN — An old-time harvest party is the theme for the first annual Shepherdstown Beer & Food Fest, which will be held this Saturday in Morgan’s Grove Park.
The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown, will run from 4-9 p.m. and feature food, alcoholic beverages, music and entertainment.
“Shepherdstown, we cannot wait for this Saturday, for our first annual Shepherdstown Beer & Food Fest! Eat, drink and be merry, Shepherdstown, for a good cause,” said a club representative in a news release. “The weather is projected to be in the 70s, [sic] for a perfect late summer night.”
The menu for the day will include hamburgers, chicken wings, hotdogs, macaroni ‘n cheese, coleslaw, corn on the cob, ginger house salad and dessert. Vegan options will be available, including vegan potato salad and Impossible Burgers.
Several companies in the area have donated generously to make the event happen, not the least of which is the festival’s presenting sponsor, Cardinal Realty Group, Inc. Licensed in several states, Cardinal Realty is headed by April Leonard in Shepherdstown.
Community members are invited to attend the event, but should be aware it is only open to those aged 21-and-older. Jefferson Distributing Company will serve a variety of beers, while Grapes & Grains Gourmet will offer wine options at the festival.
“Like any beer fest, it is important to have a variety of wine and cider options for our non-beer drinkers. We are excited for our wine sponsorship by Grapes & Grains Gourmet. We will have red, white and rose options,” the club representative said, mentioning hard cider will also be available at the festival, for non-beer drinkers to enjoy.
Both during and after the enjoyment of good food and drink, a DJ will provide music, for those interested in listening or dancing at the festival. Games, including corn hole and horseshoes, will allow attendees the opportunity to showcase their skills. Raffles will be held throughout the day, as well.
All money raised through the event will be donated to the Youth Services Committee of Rotary. This committee donates needed items to local schools, including backpacks, school supplies, desks, winter clothing and other items that may be requested. They also hold leadership events and sponsor exchange students. In addition, the committee members assist with maintenance projects and upkeep at Morgan’s Grove Park. Most recently, they donated 10 new benches made out of recycled plastic bags.
Tickets for the event cost $65 per person, including all food and drinks for the day. Tickets, which are anticipated to sell out ahead of time, may be purchased online at isc.shepherdstownrotary.org/beerfest.
The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown was chartered in April 1987, meeting every Tuesday morning at the Bavarian Inn. Weekly guest speakers, from a variety of business and service disciplines, share information with club members. One meeting per month is reserved for club assembly activities.
