SHEPHERDSTOWN — Three friends, who are also photographers, are teaming up to present a diverse photography exhibit at Evolve in Shepherdstown.
Paula Tremba, Mary Jo Bennett and Alice Newton will each bring a different, but complementary, perspective to the exhibit.
“We try to complement each other, but also do something individual and unique to us. We are three photographers with three very different visions of the world,” she said, as the trio explained how the name of the exhibit, “Three Visons,” reflected that concept.
Tremba will present flora photos, including flowers frozen in ice. In addition to the photographs that will be available for purchase, she will be selling her photos imposed on cards, tote bags, mugs and other giftable items.
Bennett’s focus in this show is on black-and-white photography, as well as infrared.
“It’s a challenge for me to do so much in black and white,” she said, adding that her work will also be available for purchase and offered on coasters, as well in some other forms. “Although I am primarily a nature, travel and macro color photographer, I have just recently discovered a great attraction for the drama and mystery of black-and-white and infrared images.”
Newton rounds out the exhibit with her abstract photos, something she describes as “artful abstracts.”
“It is abstracts of photos I have taken, and in processing, I’ve changed them into something different,” she said.
In addition to prints, Newton will be selling ceramic and metal ornaments, as well as puzzles created from images of her work.
All three of the photographers are members of the Jefferson County Photography Club, as well as the Frederick Camera Click Club in Maryland.
According to Newton, the idea for the exhibit came about, after Tremba had done a show at Evolve last year.
“She was inspirational,” Newton said.
Tremba then decided she wanted to hold an exhibit again this year, but with a twist.
“I picked my best friends to show their wonderful photographs,” Tremba said.
A reception will be held tonight from 5-8 p.m., with music provided by Tremba’s daughter, Jade. The exhibit is open today and tomorrow, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will be open on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
