Advanced high school students who submit a letter of recommendation written by a music teacher are welcome to attend as commuters.

The Jazz Flute Institute will include a private lesson; the basics of improvisation and jazz theory; and how to read lead sheets, listen, transcribe, imitate and incorporate extended techniques into jazz playing. Students will also learn how to improvise in traditional flute repertoire and will participate in jam sessions with Shepherd jazz faculty.

The cost for commuters is $310; the cost for those staying on campus, which includes housing and food, is $620. The deadline to register is May 26.
