SHEPHERDSTOWN — The Shepherdstown Farmers Market, a vibrant marketplace, takes place every Sunday morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from late March through December. Nestled behind the Old Market House on South King Street, this market offers an array of locally grown food and products crafted by local artisans.
For more than 25 years, Shepherdstown has been home to this thriving center of local commerce and community connections that captivate the senses and bring people together.
The market features a wide variety of stalls selling a wide range of products, including flowers, vegetables, honey, baskets, cheese, spices and freshly prepared specialties, as well as live performances from local musicians.
“I visited the Shepherdstown Farmers Market for the first time last Sunday,” said David Freeman, as he shopped on Sunday morning. “The variety of local products is impressive. I had a great chat with one of the beekeepers and left with a jar of honey that’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted! This market truly embodies the spirit of community.”
From infused honey and artisanal bread to farm-raised rabbit meat and handmade baskets, this market has an ideal place, for both shoppers and sellers to frequent.

“Selling my handmade baskets at the Shepherdstown Farmers Market has been an incredible experience,” said Mohammed Aka, an emigrant from Ghana, from his booth behind the Old Market House. “I’m honored to share a piece of my culture with this wonderful community. Every basket I create carries a part of my heritage. Thank you for embracing my craft!”
By choosing to shop at the Shepherdstown Farmers Market, customers are not only treating themselves to the finest local products, but also supporting sustainable agriculture. They are investing in the livelihoods of hardworking local farmers and artisans who are dedicated to preserving the environment and nourishing the community.
“I really enjoy shopping at our local farmers market,” said Shepherdstown resident Tyler Russ. “I’m that type of person willing to pay more for better quality food products, supporting small-scale local production.”
Another local resident said he views the farmers market, additionally, as a way to enjoy time with his family and the community.
“The Shepherdstown Farmers Market has been a source of joy for my family. It’s where we find the freshest ingredients for our meals. It’s a true community hub, and I’m proud to support our local farmers and artisans every week,” said Michael Gilson, of Shepherdstown.

As Gilson suggested, for Shepherdstown residents new and old, the farmers market has become a popular Sunday tradition.
“I’ve lived in Shepherdstown my whole life, and the farmers market has always been a cherished tradition,” said Melissa Corner. “The range of products available is incredible, from farm-fresh produce to handcrafted products. It’s the perfect place to connect with our tight-knit community and enjoy the best our region has to offer.”
New local resident Abigail Young wholeheartedly agreed.
“I recently moved to Shepherdstown, and the farmers market has quickly become a beloved part of my Sundays,” Young said. “The quality of the produce is outstanding, and I love knowing that I’m supporting local businesses. I’m grateful to have found this wonderful place.”
