SHEPHERDSTOWN — The Appalachian Chamber Music Festival (ACMF) will be bringing its music back to Jefferson County this month, for the second annual winter residency chamber music concert series.

Scheduled to be held from Dec. 29-31, the series of four concerts will celebrate the season with a mix of contemporary works, classic favorites and twists on familiar holiday tunes, according to ACMF Artistic Director Katie Tertell.

“This residency represents the spirit of what ACMF is all about: friends, community and the sharing of exuberant live performances with our audiences,” Tertell said. “In the midst of the festive season, experiencing live music together allows us to reflect on what’s important.”

The kickoff to the winter residency series will be with the concert, “Festive Favorites,” in St. James the Greater Catholic Church (49 Crosswinds Drive in Charles Town) on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.

“This special holiday concert will include ACMF string musicians and vocalist Ross Tamaccio, [who] will make his ACMF debut,” said ACMF manager Mayme Kugler, noting a number of quartets and quintets will be performed alongside the vocal arrangements. “This concert will run one hour, [which makes it] perfect for the whole family. And for this particular event, kids under 16 will be able to attend free, with the purchase of an adult ticket.”

On Dec. 30, two concerts will be held. The first, “Duo Delights: Festive Treats,” will take place at 10:30 a.m. in The Station at Shepherdstown (111 Audrey Egle Drive in Shepherdstown). The second, “Winter Warmers,” will begin at 7 p.m. in Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church (601 Washington Street in Harpers Ferry).

“You will find the musicians at The Station in Shepherdstown for another installment of the ‘Duo Delights’ series. These one-hour duo concerts are held in a smaller venue, where audiences truly experience chamber music up close,” Kugler said, noting the venues of both of the day’s concerts will influence their musical selections.

“‘Winter Warmers’ will take advantage of the church’s golden and cozy acoustics — audiences will enjoy works by Vivaldi, Barber, Bach and an arrangement of Schubert’s ‘Gute Nacht.'”

The final concert, “Celebrate in Style,” will welcome the coming of the new year in the War Memorial Building ballroom (102 East German Street in Shepherdstown) on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m.

Tickets prices vary by event and range in price, from $13 to $39 and vary by event. For the full schedule of events, concert programs and ticketing information, visit www.appalachianchamber.org/2023-winter-residency.
