Frosty Fest to return to Jefferson County
SHEPHERDSTOWN — For the second year-in-a-row, Frosty Fest will come to Jefferson County, celebrating the delights of the winter season from Jan. 26-28.
The festival will, once again, be sponsored by the Jefferson County Convention and Visitors Bureau (JCCVB); Jefferson Security Bank; Bavarian Inn Resort & Brewing Company; Blue Ridge Outdoors; Bank of Charles Town; Jefferson County Parks & Recreation; WVU Medicine; and the towns of Charles Town, Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry and Bolivar.
“The inaugural celebration in 2023 was a huge success and this year proves to be even bigger and better,” according to a press release from JCCVB CEO Annette Gavin Bates.
A variety of special events and winter-themed fun has been planned over the long weekend, Bates said, at locations throughout Jefferson County. Tickets to these events can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/jefferson-county-cvb-13494219919.
“The weekend is full of winter fun including: ice skating, snow tubing, hot cocoa, comedy, specialty libations and food, magic, crafts and more,” Bates said. “Jefferson County towns embrace the season with winter activities in Charles Town, Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry and Bolivar. Each bringing their own special charm to make for an incredible three day celebration!”
On Jan. 26 at 6 p.m., a Comedy Cuisine show and dinner will be held at Charles Washington Hall in Charles Town. This night of good food and lots of laughs is intended to be “a cure for the winter blues,” according to Bates. Net proceeds from this event will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle.
On Jan. 27, iceless Snowflake Skating will be held behind The Market House in Shepherdstown, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Jan. 28, Frosty Fun will be held in the Shepherdstown Community Club, from 1-3 p.m. At this event, kids will get to enjoy arts and crafts, a slime station and refreshments, along with a special magic show by Mike Perrello. Net proceeds from Frosty Fun will be donated to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Eastern Panhandle, Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle and Friends of Happy Retreat.
A second event, the Harpers Ferry Hot Cocoa Crawl, will be held throughout the day on Jan. 28. During the Harpers Ferry Hot Cocoa Crawl, various hot cocoa creations will be sold by 12 businesses: Tenfold Fair Trade Collection (180 High Street in Harpers Ferry), Tessoterica (170b High Street in Harpers Ferry), Vintage Lady (196 High Street #229 in Harpers Ferry), Battlegrounds Bakery (180 High Street in Harpers Ferry), Bolivar Bread (914 Washington Street in Harpers Ferry), True Treats Historic Candy (44 High Street in Harpers Ferry), River Riders Family Adventure Resort (408 Alstadts Hill Road in Harpers Ferry), HB Snallygasters General Store & Cafe (1102 West Washington Street in Harper Ferry), The Barn at Harpers Ferry (1062 West Washington Street in Bolivar), Rockhaven B & B (900 Fillmore Street in Harpers Ferry), Country Cafe (1723 West Washington Street in Bolivar) and Towns Inn (179 High Street in Harpers Ferry).
Alongside these single-day events, three festival-long activities will be held.
A countywide Winter Wanderland Scavenger Hunt will include prizes, such as an overnight lodging at the Bavarian Inn, a Bavarian Inn $100 gift card or West Virginia swag. Scavenger hunt participants will need to visit one of the welcome centers in Jefferson County, to pick up a game card and learn further details.
Snow tubing will be available every day and night on the Snow Riders 12-lane, 300+ foot long tubing hill. To make the snow tubing more fun at night, Snow Riders will be illuminating the hill with a multicolor LED disco light show and playing music. Tickets for snow tubing can be purchased at https://snowriders.com/.
Frosty-themed treats and discounts will be available at businesses throughout Jefferson County over the three-day weekend, a list of which can be found at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/frosty-discountsspecials-tickets-795352138657 or by visiting https://wherealmostheavenbegins.com/index.php?p=blog/frostyfest-2024.
