KEARNEYSVILLE – Patt Welsh, a Kearneysville resident since 1962, has recently published her first collection of poetry, “My Little Book of Poems from the Heart.”

Her poetry has been presented to and evaluated by various writers-in-residence through Shepherd University’s Appalachian Heritage Festival. Welsh is also a longtime participant in The Poetry Corner and writing groups in the Eastern Panhandle.

Always active in community affairs, she is a longtime supporter of Relay for Life, a former 4-H club leader, a department superintendent for the Jefferson County Fair and has held many roles at her church, Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Kearneysville.

Welsh — a past columnist for The Spirit of Jefferson, The Martinsburg Journal and The Shepherdstown Chronicle — retired from her career at Shepherd University in 2016.

A book launch in celebration of the release of “My Little Book of Poems from the Heart” is planned for Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Shepherdstown Public Library, located at 145 Higbee Lane in Shepherdstown.

The book is available for purchase at Four Seasons Books in Shepherdstown or directly through its publisher’s website, www.ellersliebookswv.com.
