SHEPHERDSTOWN — German Street is about to come alive, with the return of Shepherdstown Street Fest on June 29, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The annual festival is “a celebration of creativity, culture and community,” according to John Meeker, president and main stage coordinator of Shepherdstown W.Va. Street Fest, Inc.

“Shepherdstown Street Fest is a beloved tradition that brings together artists, musicians, vendors and community members for a day of festivities,” Meeker said. “For over 20 years, this festival has continued to grow, attracting visitors from near and far to experience the unique charm of Shepherdstown. This year promises to be the most vibrant yet, as we showcase an eclectic mix of artists, musicians and performers against the picturesque backdrop of Shepherdstown’s historic streets.”

According to Meeker, the 70-plus vendors at Street Fest will be selling everything from handcrafted jewelry and pottery to original paintings and photography. Family-friendly activities, such a face painting, inflatables, interactive art projects and karaoke will be available to participate in throughout the day. And, as in years past, a wide variety of foods will be on sale from food stands run by Shepherdstown’s restaurants or sold from some of the region’s best food trucks, located beside the Street Fest Beer Garden.

A number of local and nationally recognized musical performers are slated to perform at this year’s festival, ranging in genre from blues and rock to folk and jazz. The Library Stage performers will include: the Living Fossils, a Shepherdstown-based surf rock group; Lynn Routzan & Friends, featuring good times rock ‘n roll; Lady Hatchet, performing punky roots reggae and ska; and The Hokums, covering a wide range of genres, including rock, ragtime, folk, Americana and acoustic blues. The Main Stage will feature: Black Masala, a band performing brassy midnight party grooves; The Bob Keel Experience, featuring a seasoned acoustic musician renowned for soulful melodies and captivating performances; X of the Potomac, a Shepherdstown-based band that performs original songs and Americana roots rock; the Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra, a Charles Town-based orchestra founded by Shepherd University cello professor Camilo Perez-Mejia; and The Seymores, an alternative/indie quartet from Richmond, Va. which reformed in 2022, after a 24-year-long break.

Meeker noted that, along with knowing they will have a good time, attendees can know they will be supporting a good cause.

“Proceeds from Street Fest go to local and regional service organizations,” Meeker said. “This year’s proceeds will go to the Shepherdstown Community Club’s War Memorial Building fund and to Jefferson County Middle School band programs.

“Don’t miss out on the excitement of Shepherdstown StreetFest! Mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and come experience a day of art, music and community unlike any other,” Meeker said. “Admission is free, so come early and stay late as we celebrate the creativity and culture that make Shepherdstown so special.”

Event parking will be available at lots G and H, near the Shepherd University Wellness Center, and at lot A near Shepherd University’s White Hall on the corner of High Street and Princess Street. Pan Tran will provide free handicapped accessible shuttle service from both parking lots to the event, from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
