SHARPSBURG, Md. — For the second year-in-a-row, Little Brick Coffee has given back to nonprofits in the local community, through a selfless holiday fundraiser.
Located at 16613 Shepherdstown Pike in Sharpsburg, Md., the coffee shop recently celebrated its second anniversary, as well as the second year that it has successfully raised funds for the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department and Shepherdstown Shares.
“At Little Brick, we love the big feeling of community we get every day inside our tiny shop!” said owner Dorrie Pilot, noting this is reflected throughout the coffee shop’s branding. “We also feel strongly about giving back to the community that has supported us from day one.”
From the beginning of December through Christmas Eve, Little Brick Coffee matched all gift card sales and donated the gift card and matched amounts to the two organizations.
“We will again be supporting our friends keeping our community safe at the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Shepherdstown Shares, an incredible nonprofit organization responding to need in the Shepherdstown area, including a food pantry three times per week, serving over 600 individuals per month,” Pilot said. “We are honored to be able to give back to these two great organizations during our season of giving! Thanks for helping us support our community.”
The two organizations were then presented with checks from the fundraiser on Dec. 31. According to Shepherdstown Shares board member Jan Hafer, the total amount donated was $3,120. Those funds have been placed in the 501(c)(3) nonprofit’s general fund and will be used to support the work of Shepherdstown Shares’ food pantry and other service projects in the community.
“Shout out to Little Brick Coffee across the river, who matched dollar-for-dollar funds collected for holiday sales of their coffee gift cards!” Hafer said. “What a way to end the year.
Hafer noted that Shepherdstown Shares and Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department were also the recipients of last year’s fundraiser proceeds. However, the amount raised in the fundraiser’s first year was nowhere near this year’s amount, with each organization being given a $1,000 check last year.
“We love Little Brick! They’re very generous,” Hafer said. “From the very beginning when they opened, they have given us so much.
“They regularly donate stuff. And when they first opened, they had too much extra food, so they would give us a lot of leftovers until their business built up,” Hafer said, noting this generosity is driven by Pilot’s understanding of the vital role Shepherdstown Shares plays in the area. “They see Shepherdstown Share as a help in the community — and that’s really our mission, to help those in need in our community.”
