SHEPHERDSTOWN — For the third year, the Jefferson County Convention and Visitors Bureau brings the annual Frostyfest celebration that encompasses a weekend full of wintry fun, discounts, cocoa, food and entertainment.

Planned for Jan. 24-26, the weekend will offer family-friendly activities to spice up the cold days of winter. The event kicks off early on Thursday evening, with a preview sneak peek at the Shepherdstown Library Winter Book Sale.

Book lovers can pay a $20 entry fee from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 23 to find their favorite books to take home. The sale continues, with no admission fee from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Those who love to be challenged with arts and crafts projects should plan to come out to Alma Bea in Shepherdstown anytime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. all three days of the weekend to create a snowman or snowwoman. Styrofoam balls and craft supplies for decorating will be provided.

At the same time, adults can enjoy some dirty snowman cocktails or s’more lattes, while kids can delight in campfire cocoa drinks.

A community lantern parade returns to Washington Street in Bolivar on Jan. 25, as parade participants make their way from Harpers Ferry Middle School to the Bolivar Community Center for cider and cookies. Participants are encouraged to wear twinkle lights, bring and carry a paper lantern illuminated with LED lights, play an instrument or carry wind chimes. The parade begins at 6 p.m.

On Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., folks can gather at the Bavarian Inn for the Art of Cooking Event offering a brunch buffet, bloody mary and mimosa bar. The cost for this event is $55 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Jefferson Arts Council.

A county-wide cocoa crawl will have any number of businesses providing tasty cocoa treats to warm the palate and the soul. Enjoy flavors that could include cherry white hot chocolate, candy cane spiked hot cocoa, peppermint hot chocolate and more. While enjoying the cocoa, visitors are encouraged to also take advantage of a number of specials and discounts at local shops and restaurants throughout the county.

Frostyfest was developed in its 2023 inaugural year as a way to bring people into Jefferson County during one of the slowest times of the year. By providing wintry activities, the Jefferson County Convention and Visitors Bureau has worked to think outside the box and find ways for the county to be a year-round destination. The Jefferson County CVB supports the area’s businesses through marketing and social media campaigns locally and in key feeder markets to Jefferson County.
