SHEPHERDSTOWN — This coming Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Shepherdstown Street Fest will be returning to German Street.
The festival will feature a lineup of live music on two stages, many of whom will be familiar faces to local attendees.
“One of the values kind of ‘baked in’ to the DNA of Street Fest is the promotion of the DIY music scene,” said John Meeker, Street Fest president and organizer. “This year, we’re featuring the return of some of the bands that we loved from the height of that scene back around the turn of the century. Names like Paul Pfau and Tucker Riggleman that started here in the ’90s and early 2000s will be playing, alongside some of the heroes keeping that spirit alive today.”
On the main stage will be: The Living Fossils from 12-1:15 p.m., Tucker Riggleman and the Cheap Dates from 1:45-3 p.m.; Frum the Hills from 3:30-4:45 p.m., Lady Hatchet from 5:15-6:30 p.m. and Paul Pfau Band from 7-8:30 p.m. Four bands will be featured in between each of these performances, at the library stage behind the Market House: Betty Jo and Scott from 1:15-1:45 p.m.; Beauty and the Beast Flats from 3-3:30 p.m.; Milo & The Anarchy Farm from 4:45-5:15 p.m. and the Outpatients from 6:30-7 p.m.
An expanded number of food trucks and vendors will also be found at this year’s festival.
“We have twice as many food and beverage vendors this year. I’m excited to try some of the new drinks vendors – their offering descriptions are enticing,” Meeker said. “We have 82 arts and crafts vendors participating this year, but we’re most excited that a record number of Shepherdstown businesses — 36 — will have booths. Five of those businesses have donated their space to a nonprofit organization.”
According to Meeker, extra booth space for nonprofit organizations has been added to this year’s booth lineup, at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 208 W. German St.
“We’re excited about the addition of the Nonprofit Garden cosponsored by Shepherdstown Shares and Trinity Episcopal Church,” Meeker said. “Social service and nonprofit arts organizations will be set up in the cool shade of the Trinity churchyard to beat the heat and learn about the wide variety of community offerings. This will include a Stuff the Truck event for flood relief supplies.”
Stuff the Truck will be a new initiative at this year’s Street Fest, with the goal of filling a truck at the Nonprofit Garden with essential items for those impacted by recent flooding in Ohio County and Marion County. Items that are needed include: tarps, shovels, crow bars, utility knives, work and disposable gloves, new socks, disinfectant wipes, contractor bags, storage bins, buckets, trash cans, scrub brushes, brooms, duct tape, muck boots, mops, bleach, dish soap, all-purpose cleaner, spray bottles, sponges and rags, hoses and squeegees.
The items will be delivered by Community Markets, Inc. (CMI) to the area of need after the event and two other stops for donations — noon-5 p.m. Friday at Jefferson Security Bank’s main office, located at 105 East Washington Street, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, at the War Memorial Building, located at 102 East German Street.
“Community Markets, Inc. is honored to partner with Shepherdstown Shares, Jefferson Security Bank, Shepherdstown Community Club and other local organizations to come to the aid of our affected West Virginians in Ohio and Marion counties during this critical time of rebuilding,” CMI Operations Manager Mark Peiffer said. “Join us in making a positive impact in the lives of our neighbors. Together, we can help rebuild and restore hope in our community.”
Those wanting to donate funds to the effort instead are encouraged to do so with Ohio Valley Mutual Aid or with West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
Free parking at Street Fest will be available in Shepherd University’s parking lots. A shuttle service provided by Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority will offer rides from the parking lots straight to the festival.
