Eastern West Virginia Community awards scholarships
The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation announced 36 scholarships to 32 students from Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire and Hardy Counties totaling nearly $33,000. Recipients attended a recent reception, joined by many of the donors who have created the varied scholarship funds held in the Community Foundation.
The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation was founded in 1995 and serves Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties and with its “sister” affiliates counties with the Hampshire County Community Foundation and Hardy County Community Foundation. It provides financial stewardship for more than 138 endowment funds and holds approximately $16.1 million in endowment.
Justin Hardy, graduate of Washington High School, received a $500 scholarship from the David A. “Hawk” Hawkens Fund. David Donahue, graduate of Jefferson High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Terry Lee Walker, Jr. Fund. Brandon Doughty, graduate of Jefferson High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Martin Luther King Fund. Chelsea Walters, graduate of Washington High School, received a $500 scholarship from the David A. “Hawk” Hawkens Fund. Thaleigha Rampersad, graduate of Jefferson High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Martin Luther King Fund. Giovanni Fleri, graduate of Jefferson High School, received a $500 scholarship from the David A. “Hawk” Hawkens Fund. Desire’ Miller, graduate of Jefferson High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Susan Wellford Smith Fund.
Samantha Cogle, graduate of Washington High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Terry Lee Walker, Jr. Fund.
