Individuals may sign up beginning Monday, June 13 for the Shepherdstown Public Library’s Summer 2011 free programs.

Tuesday, June 28 at the War Memorial Building (Men’s Club) at 10:30 a.m.: A high-energy magic show for ages 3 and older, performed by Philip and Henry.

Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Men’s Club: Joe Santoro of Wonderment Puppets will present a fairy tale. For all ages.

Thursday, July 14 at the Shepherdstown Train Station: Children are invited to the Shenandoah Discovery Museum’s show, “When Pigs Float,” at 2 p.m. There is space for 75 children, ages 3 and older.

Wednesday, July 20 at the Train Station at 10:30 a.m.: a CraftWorks program will help children ages 3 and older create their own super heroes to save the world. Space for 75.

Monday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Men’s Club: Nancy Jenks and Juanita Salazar will present stories and circle dances from around the world. For all ages.

Tuesday, Aug. 2 at the Train Station at 10:30 a.m.: Wildlife Ambassadors will bring animals that may include a box turtle, an opossum, a porcupine, a raptor, native snakes and more. For all ages; space for 75 children.

Children may pick up a reading log in the Library’s Children’s Department beginning June 13, borrow library books, and earn prizes for reading (or being read to).

Younger children must complete 36 picture books or easy readers; older children must read 12 books totaling more than 350 pages. Prize packets will include gift certificates totaling $8; coupons for free food including a slice of pizza, a smoothie, a cupcake, a pot of tea and a cookie, a lollipop, a fortune cookie, and a chocolate; a coupon for a free flower and much more, all donated by many of Shepherdstown’s generous businesses.

Each reading log will include a final list of prizes and 36 stickers.
