Obituary Daniel Ryan

Daniel A. Ryan, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 in Wesley Chapel, Fla. He was born Jan. 28, 1921 in New York, N.Y. to Ambrose Ryan and Susan Bock Ryan, the youngest of four: Paul, Marie and Charles, all predeceased.

An honor student, Mr. Ryan attended Fordham Preparatory School. He traveled extensively on adventures with his aunt Eleanor Ryan.

Based in England during WWII, he served in the Army-Air Force and in Special Operations as an expert bombardier-navigator.

He was graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He received a Master’s of Business Administration from New York University. Mr. Ryan worked at Friendly’s Ice Cream for 37 years, and retired as president, ‘Fine Dining’ division.

Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara G. (Atkinson) and their children, spouses and grandchildren: Philip J. A. Ryan, Md., and wife, Katherine Walsh Ryan, of Shepherdstown, and children: Elliott Ryan and Lindsay Ryan of New York, N.Y. ; Gregory K. Ryan of Westwood, Mass. and children: Allison Ryan and Griffin Ryan; and Glen Ellen (Ryan) Brown and husband, Nicholas T. Brown, of New York, N.Y. and children: Ian Brown and Avery Brown.
