Obituary Helen Benedum
Helen Batie Hammond Benedum, 90 of Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed away Friday, Feb., 17, 2012 at Messiah Village. Born May 18, 1921 in Kearneysville, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late William Batie Hammond and Laura Annetta (White) Hammond.
Helen received her Associate’s Degree from Shepherd College and was a former secretary for the federal government in Washington, D.C. during World War II, the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital and the Fish and Game Commission in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband George D. Benedum, Jr. and by two brothers John and William Hammond. She is survived by her two daughters Judith J. Brodovicz and husband Ben of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Barbara B. Rowe and husband Ronald of Enola, Pa. and two grandchildren Brandon and Allison Rowe.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at St. James Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg, Pa. with viewing held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
