Teen Tech Week is March 4 through 10, and this year’s theme is “Geek Out @ your Library.” Middle and high school students are invited to explore the Library’s graphic novels, DVDs, books on CD and MP3, and magazines that include Rolling Stone. We will show you how to download free audio books to your computer, eBook reader, or mobile device, as well as how to locate online newspaper and magazine articles for reports, and practice online for the ACT and SAT exams.
St. Patrick’s Day will be the theme during the After School Program on Thursday, Mar. 15 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Hear some stories featuring mischievous elves and leprechauns and enjoy an easy craft.
Borrow some children’s fiction and nonfiction in March: Celtic folk and fairy tales will be on display through the 17th, and inspiring books in celebration of Women’s History Month from the 18th through the 31st.
The Library requests donations of gently used DVDs for adults and children. Either foreign or domestic films would be appreciated. Please drop off your donations at 100 East German Street.

Spiritual Care Services at West Virginia University Hospitals-East Jefferson Memorial Hospital is a ministry of healing that provides emotional and spiritual support to patients, their families, hospital staff, and volunteers. As part of this program, Jefferson Memorial Hospital has also established a Spiritual Worship Service every Sunday at 1 p.m. This service is held in the chapel, located on the first floor, and is provided by the volunteer chaplains. The service is open to patients, visitors, family members, staff and the community. Good Shepherd Caregivers’ 12th annual Potter’s Bowl will be at 6 p.m. at the Shepherdstown Fire Hall.
Select a handcrafted pottery bowl to take home, and fill it with hearty soups donated by local restaurants. You’ll also have a chance to bid on beautiful works of art and craft, along with various other items, in our silent and live auctions. The Friends of Music will host the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, led by Shepherd University cello professor Steven Czarkowski, at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center. The concert is sponsored by Helen and Ed Moore of Shepherdstown.
Czarkowski is long-time principal cellist of the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra. In addition, he is the conductor of the Apollo Chamber Orchestra in Maryland, assistant conductor of the Opera Camerata of Washington, cover conductor of the Norwalk Symphony, and guest conductor of the Frederick, Maryland, all-county orchestra.

Crystal Singing Bowl Alignment Class
24 p.m. www.harmonyhealingarts.org Sound Healing is an effective and proven modality that uses vibrational sound to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well-being and better health. Ann Craig will offer a special opportunities to help balance your body, mind and soul by aligning your chi (chakras) using guided meditation and crystal singing bowls. A suggested donation of $20 is requested for this interactive alignment class.

Joe Manchin; House of Representatives candidates: Dugald Brown, William McCann and Howard Swint to speak at 4 p.m. in the Old Charles Town Library located at Washington and Samuel streets. Other candidates to present themselves will be Bob Tabb, candidate for Agricultural Commissioner and Ruth McQuade, candidate for Prosecuting Attorney in Jefferson County. The meeting, sponsored by the Jefferson County Organization of Democratic Women, is open to all. Refreshments will be served. Use the Samuel Street entrance, lower level.

The Jefferson County Planning Commission will hold a public input workshop regarding Recreational Uses in the County which may result in a future amendment to regulations. No ordinance language is being proposed at this time. The workshop will be held during a regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. at the Wright Denny Auditorium, 209 West Congress Street, Charles Town. A presentation will be made by staff to the Planning Commission, after which public comment will be heard. The written draft of the proposal will be available on the Planning and Zoning Department website by close of business on Friday, March 9. The Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. for dinner at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. The program featuring James Addy as guest speaker, begins at 8 p.m. The subject of the presentation will be “President Ulysses S. Grant: His Presidency, His Legacy.”
The cost of the meal is $15 per person. The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) in Jefferson County cordially invites the public to attend a forum to hear Jefferson County Board of Education candidates speak and campaign for the two vacant Jefferson County Board of Education seats. Come hear what these candidates have to say about their view on the future of education in Jefferson County. The event will be held in the auditorium at Jefferson High School, 4141 Flowing Springs Road, Shenandoah Junction at 7 p.m.

“Celebration of Strings” : Showcase from the Dulcimer Festival
This year’s showcase features Patti Amelotte, a dulcimer dynamo from Southern California, where she plays an energetic repertoire of Celtic, American and Bluegrass repertoire in a variety of ensembles. Andy Young, hails from Chicago, where he electrifies audiences with stunning performances of Irish, French Canadian music and Gypsy Jazz on hammered dulcimer, flute, or guitar. The concert takes place at the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church on the corner of King and Washington Streets in Shepherdstown, WV at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 adults, $12 seniors, $10 SMD members, $8 students. Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players will present Holy Harlots: Two Medieval Plays about Prostitutes at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, March 28 at 9 p.m.; Thursday, March 29 at 9 p.m.; Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. Performances will be held in Reynolds Hall. Tickets will be available at the door. Ticket prices are $5 for the general public; $2 for Shepherd University faculty and staff; and free for Shepherd students.

Ellen Hardesty will exhibit her photographic work at the Jean Heiler Gallery at the Old Opera House in Charles Town. The exhibit runs March 23 April 1 with an opening reception on today from 6 p.m. until just before the play, Home Games, beginning at 8 p.m. The artist will be on hand during the reception on March 23. The exhibit will also be available for viewing before each play night and during the play’s intermissions on March 24, 25, 30, 31 and April 1.
