Jefferson Security robbed

Police surround the Jefferson Security Bank where a robbery occurred at approximately 1:10 p.m. Friday.

Shepherdstown Police Chief David Ransom confirmed this afternoon that a robbery took place at Jefferson Security Bank, 105 East Washington St. at approximately 1:10 p.m.

According to Ransom, a white male, approximately 50 to 55 years of age entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect was wearing a white button-down shirt and tan jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, as well as a tan hat. He has a black beard and was wearing glasses.

Police officers from Shepherdstown and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene taking witness statements and scouring neighboring streets aided by the use of canine units.

Ransom indicated the suspect did leave the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The bank remains closed Friday afternoon.
