Pedal & Paddle will be hosting their annual River Clean-Up on Sat. March 10 at 8 a.m.

This is the fourth year Pedal & Paddle has held the clean-up in hopes to keep the bike trails along the river healthier and more enjoyable for the people who use them.

Volunteers are instructed to meet at the shop on 115 German St. at 7:30 a.m. to relax and have coffee before heading to the C&O Canal. There is a possibility for cancellation depending on rain; therefore, it is recommended to call the shop at 304-876-3000 beforehand.

The shop was opened by Eddie Sampson in 2007 and is currently run by Sampson and his girlfriend, Hannah Beahm and full-time employee Jamie Stone.

Pedal and Paddle is a full service bicycle shop that also specializes in a variety of outdoor sports and activities. They provide canoe, kayak and road or mountain bicycle rentals for four hours or a full day while also offering a shuttle service for an additional fee. The canoe rentals are $45 for four hours and $55 for full day. The kayak rentals are $35 for four hours and $45 for full day. The shop also offers full service bicycle tune-ups that cost $65 not including broken parts.

“If it’s got wheels or cranks, I can fix it,” says Stone.

They also keep brand new bicycles of the brands Giant and Specialized in stock for purchase and sometimes sell used bikes. The shop is open every day except Tues. from 12-6 and Sundays from 12-5.

Stone says, “We’re just trying to keep everybody rolling.”
