A Cappella concert set at Shepherd
The Shepherd University a cappella choirs Chamber Singers, Women’s Camerata, and Men’s Choir will join the new Vocal Jazz Octet on Saturday, Mar. 31 at 8 p.m. in the Frank Theater. The centerpiece of the concert is Requiem by Herbert Howells, as well as Mass No. 9 by Gyorgy Orban.
The Chamber Singers is a mostly a cappella ensemble concentrating on masterpieces of the 20th century.
The ensemble is made up of 20 to 24 students each year. While most of the members are vocal majors, other music majors and Shepherd students participate. The Women’s Camerata, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, is an ensemble of 30 to 35 female singers comprised of voice majors, music majors, and students from other disciplines at Shepherd. The Men’s Choir, under the direction of Joseph Regan, is an ensemble of 12 to 15 male voices singing jazz, doo-wop, barbershop and classical male choir literature. The new Vocal Jazz Octet, under the direction of Dr. Jones, will be premiering several works in the vocal jazz style.
General admission to the a cappella concert is $10; $5 for faculty, staff and students 18 and under; and free to Shepherd students and Friends of Music MAC cardholders. Admission and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The box office opens one hour prior to performance.
