On Sunday, April 15 at approximately 9:24 a.m., Officer J. Jenkins of the Shepherdstown Police Department received a report of a vehicle driving into a structure at 347 West German Street in Shepherdstown. Upon arrival at the scene, Jenkins discovered a red Ford Fusion driven by Gene Wilhoite, 24, of Virginia, had left the north side of the roadway and gone over an embankment. The vehicle then went through a house at that location, coming to rest in a bedroom. The house was occupied at the time of the crash but there were no injuries to any of the occupants. There was considerable damage done to the front room of the home and a bedroom, according to police. Wilhoite was transported to City Hospital in Martinsburg. Police Chief David Ransom reported later in the week that the accident appeared to have resulted from a medical problem faced by the driver. No charges have been filed at this time. Shepherd University Police Department along with Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
