Friends of Music invite all to A Night in Old Havana

By Staff | Apr 20, 2012

The Friends of Music 5th Annual Tuxedo Junction is on the move for A Night in Old Havana. On Friday, May 11, The Bavarian Inn will become the Havana, Cuba of the ’50s and hundreds of party-goers will relive the days of glamor and excitement on the famous playground of yesteryear.

The internationally acclaimed Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble’s Mambo Kings, under the direction of Dr. Kurtis Adams, will dazzle diners and dancers with the sounds of Xavier Cugat, Pupi Campo, Tito Puente and more. A silent auction of spectacular opportunities that include travel packages to a castle in Scotland, the U.S. Open and Kentucky Derby to local packages at the Hollywood Casino, Bavarian Inn and Cress Creek Country Club will be up for bidding.

Just ina Top Gun experience for one person as a fighter pilot for a day in a military aircraft.

“We know there are lots of fundraisers,” said Alan Gibson, chairman of the event. “but nothing as exciting nor as much fun as this. It will be an evening of your wildest imagination and it’s for a great cause.” All proceeds from A Night in Old Havana will go to benefit the students of the SU Department of Music and the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra.

The Friends of Music, a 501C3, is dedicated to supporting musical excellence throughout the region and at Shepherd University. For tickets and information please call Joanna Mooma at Friends of Music 304-876-5765, or visit www.suform.org.
