Obituary — Daniel R. Nichols. Jr.
Daniel R. “Danny” Nichols, Jr., 82, of Charles Town, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1929 in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Daniel Russell Nichols, Sr. and Mildred Virginia Maddox Nichols.
Mr. Nichols retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education as a bus operator and member of the maintenance department. Prior, he had been a car salesman in Charles Town for 40 years.
He was a member of Uvilla Methodist Church and a graduate of Shepherdstown High School.
Mr. Nichols held membership in Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town; was a social member of Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71, Charles Town; and was a member of the 500 Club.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Charlotte A. Hoover Nichols, at home; one son, Daniel R. “Rusty” Nichols, III and wife Heidi, Uvilla; daughters Saundra A. Ash and husband David, Berryville, Va. and Deborah D. Thomas and husband, Gary, Shepherdstown; grandchildren, Lisa Boyd, Shelly Crockett, Clint Thomas, Hannah Nichols and Brogan Nichols; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Crockett, Adam Crockett, Jade Thomas, Justin Thomas, Cody Ash, Ryan Boyd and Casaundra Shawyer; and two sisters, Joyce Jean Moore, Sterling, Va. and Clarissa “Kye” Loyd, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Services were held Wednesday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home. Dr. Parker Hinzman officiated and interment was in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
