Mountain Heritage Festival celebrates 41 years
The 41st annual Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day June 8-10. There is something for everyone to see and do at this festival.
Approximately 200 carefully selected and prejudged artisans will be demonstrating their work at the festival such as pottery, basket making, weaving, painting and glass blowing.
Activities for the children include a make-it-take-it craft, face painting, moon bounce and rock climbing wall. For children of all ages, the Potomac Garden Railroad Club will display all types of engines from steam to dash 9 which will run each day.
For those that enjoy bluegrass music, there are four great bands this year. Patent Pending, Bill Emerson & The Sweet Dixie Band, The Hillbilly Gypsies and new this year, David Davis and Warrior River Boys will perform. They will play on Saturday and Sunday. West Virginia Wineries participating again this eyar are Forks of Cheat Winery, Morgantown; Kirkwood, Summersville; Potomac Highland Winery, Keyser; Watt’s Roost, Lewisburg; and West-Whitehill Winery, Moorefield. Everyone is reminded that it is a violation of West Virginia law for anyone under the age of 21 to consume or buy wine or other alcoholic beverages, so be prepared to show valid identification for tasting and/or purchasing wine products.
Watch for the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival signs and follow them to Sam Michael’s Park, just off Route 340 between Harpers Ferry and Charles Town. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-17. Parking, arts/crafts demonstrations, wine tasting, live bluegrass music and children’s crafts and face painting are included in the price of admission; there is a slight additional charge for the moon bounce sponsored by Great Inflates and rock climbing will sponsored by River Riders.
