Obituary Thomas
Elizabeth Thomas, formerly of Chester, W.Va., and East Liverpool, Ohio, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, in City Hospital, Martinsburg. She resided at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown.
Born January 23, 1920, in East Liverpool, at the age of three she joined her paternal grandparents, John McNicol Grafton and Mary Elizabeth Mountford Grafton of Boston, Mass. They also resided in Buffalo, N.Y., before returning to East Liverpool.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Aloysius Parish.
She was employed as an official at Waterford Park and as personal assistant to the owner, James E. Edwards. She also was employed at The Meadowlands in Washington, Pa. and as manager of Custom Carpet in East Liverpool.
She retired in Florida and lived in Lutz during the 80s and 90s. For a brief time she lived in Shepherdstown before relocating to Chester for seven years. She returned to Shepherdstown in June 2009.
Thomas was preceded in death by her grandparents, two brothers, John Grafton and Joseph Grafton Vannoy and her husband, Arthur T Thomas, Sr., longtime editor of The Review in East Liverpool, Ohio.
Surviving are her children, Dianne Thomas (Paul) Chalfant, of Shepherdstown, Rosemary Thomas Mackall, of Chester, Arthur T. Thomas, Jr., of Lutz, Fla., Arlene (Mickey) Thomas (William) Graham of Linconville, Me.; seven grandchildren, Paul D. James, Keron Elizabeth Psillas, and Ali James Bowman of Shepherdstown, Robin Brown Webster of Chester, Deenie Dysert of Shrewsbury, Mass., Rusty Dysert of Bulgar, Pa., and Kevin Arthur Thomas of Florida; and seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her cousins, Raymond, John and David Betteridge, Joyce Betteridge Bell and Dan Grafton of East Liverpool and Nancy Shields Beadle of Akron.
Her personal request was no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be at Coumbiana Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
