Samuel Downey Lang, “Sammy”, 60, formerly of Martinsburg, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Silver Lake Center in Dover, Del.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Nov. 29, 1951, to the late Samuel Goodrum Lang and the late Nancy Downey Lang Grove. Until the age of 40, he lived with his family at Hartwood, surrounded by those who loved him.
Survivors include his stepfather, Ernest L. Grove Jr., of Sarasota, Fla.; four sisters, Margaret Lang Cochran of Shepherdstown, Frances Lang Skiles of Shepherdstown and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nancy “Davi” Lang Kaercher of Alpharetta, Ga., and Sally Lefevre Lang Thomas of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Peter Goodrum Lang of Hagerstown, Md.; stepbrother, Dr. Stephen Grove of New Windsor, N.Y.; two stepsisters, Lynn Meheran of Bolton, Mass., and Laura Kemp of Greenwich, Conn.; four nephews, Douglas Lloyd Skiles of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert Lloyd Kaercher III of Haverhill, Mass., Andrew Lang Kaercher of Alpharetta, Ga., and Peter Ashlan Lang of Hagerstown, Md.; three nieces, Wendy Frances Ransom of Shepherdstown, Carrie Strider Starkey of Waynesboro, Pa., and Amy Skiles Barlow of Boca Raton, Fla.; and one uncle, Brown Lefevre Downey of Hagerstown.
Funeral services were held graveside at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, at Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Cushwa officiating.
Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
