Rotary gives back to community

The Charles Town Rotary Club recently donated funds raised at the annual J.B. Smith Golf Tournament. Shown from left are Danny Smith, John Lowery with Jefferson High School Baseball who received $1,000; Michelle Goldman with Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic who received $8,000; Ann Smith, Renee Smith, Jackie Gore with Jefferson Memorial Park who received $8,000; Michael Whalton, new director of Eastern WV Community Foundation who received $7,500; Mark Hash with Washington High School Baseball who received $1,000 and Rose Stevenson, secretary of the Rotary Club.

The J.B. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament started in 2000 as a remembrance to 23 year old Jeffrey Brenton. Smith, the son of Danny and Ann Smith and the younger brother of Renee. He was killed in a car accident on Aug.15, 1998. Since the start of the tournament, over $350,000 has been raised for community charities.
