Shepherd University faculty recital

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, in association with the Shepherd University Music Department will present a Faculty Recital on Sunday, August 12, at 2:30 p.m. A reception, hosted by the members of the Museum’s volunteer organization, The Singer Society, will follow the recital. This is a ticketed event, $5 for non-members and free for members and children 12 and under.

This annual recital, sponsored by Cinda and Spence Perry, will feature Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao a Piano Professor at Shepherd University. Selections will include Intermezzo in A-Flat major by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963), Iberia by Isaac Albniz (1860-1909), Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) and Fantasia Baetica (1919) by Manuel de Falla (1876-1946).

A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Yu-Hsuan received her Master’s and Doctoral Degrees of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. She began her musical studies in Tung-Hai University, Taichung, Taiwan, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She is a piano soloist, collaborative artist, and music educator. In 2010, Yu-Hsuan gave a piano lecture-recital based on her published book in 2009 entitled Manuel de Falla’s Cuatro Piezas Espanoles: Combinations and Transformation of the Spanish Folk Modes and a solo piano performance in composers’ new composition concert at the Southern Chapter Conference of the College Music Society. She was previously on the faculty at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla.
