The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a wetland nature walk on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Cool Spring, an 81-acre Jefferson County property that is also the home of CraftWorks, a center for craft and creative learning. The walk will focus on butterflies, dragonflies, birds, and wetland plants in Cool Spring Marsh, a unique marl marsh on the property.

The marsh supports at least 18 species of rare West Virginia plants and a wide variety of animal life. It is sustained by Bullskin Run, which runs through the property. The marsh is not normally open to the public, so this will be a good opportunity to visit.

The walk will be led by local naturalists Carol del Colle and Bruni Haydl. It will begin at 10 a.m. and last for one-and-one-half to two hours. Anyone is welcome to participate, including families with children, and there will be no fee.

Trip participants should wear comfortable walking shoes. (Waterproof footwear is not necessary because the marsh includes dry walking paths.) Bug spray is recommended. Binoculars and field guides are optional. Pets will not be permitted on the walk.
