Yoga community organizes fundraiser for Peter Yates

By Staff | Aug 31, 2012

Jala Yoga and Harmony Healing Arts Center are joining forces to hold a “Prana for Peter” fundraising event for Peter Yates on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Shepherdstown Train Station, Audrey Egle Drive. The event, which includes a yoga class led by Christa Mastrangelo Joyce and a kirtan (traditional chanting) led by Laura First and Don Oehser, takes place from 6-8:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $15-20 is requested, all of which will go directly to Peter Yates to help defray costly medical bills.

Yates faces a long recovery following a vehicular accident on July 23 in which he broke nearly 20 bones involving, among other areas, his spine and knees. During the past five years, Peter has held numerous free yoga classes at both Jala Yoga and Harmony Healing Arts Center. The Shepherdstown yoga community is greatly indebted to this generous man. It is with gratitude and a sense of admiration for him that these two yoga centers come together to offer a yoga practice in his honor and join voices in a kirtan directed at sending healing energy his way.

The yoga practice (an easy flow class designed for all) will begin at 6 p.m. with the kirtan immediately following at 7:30. People are invited to participate in any or all parts of this event, and to enjoy tea and cookies following the conclusion of the kirtan.
