On Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., filmmaker Jeffrey Kimball will screen his new film: “Birders: The Central Park Effect,” in the Byrd Auditorium at the National Conservation Training Center, Shepherd Grade Road. This film is co-sponsored by The American Conservation Film Festival.

“The Central Park Effect” reveals the extraordinary array of wild birds who grace Manhattan’s celebrated patch of green and the equally colorful, full-of-attitude New Yorkers who schedule their lives around the rhythms of migration. Acclaimed author Jonathan Franzen, an idiosyncratic trombone technician, a charming fashion-averse teenager, and a bird-tour leader who’s recorded every sighting she’s made since the 1940s are among the film’s cast of characters. Featuring spectacular wildlife footage capturing the changing seasons, this lyrical documentary transports the viewer to a dazzling world that goes all but unnoticed by the 38 million people who visit the park each year.

San Francisco-born Jeffrey Kimball earned film degrees from Stanford and NYU. Formerly a producer, cinematographer and editor on fiction films and documentaries, he is perhaps best known as a music supervisor for indie features and for founding Miramax’s music department. “The Central Park Effect” is his feature directorial debut.

The presentation is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required. It is part of a monthly “Conservation Lecture Series” held at the National Conservation Training Center.
