Ethel Roberta Frye, 92, of Harpers Ferry, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.

Born June 26, 1920, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late Dudley and Nellie Hayes Whittington.

She was a member of the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. Ethel loved country and bluegrass music, cooking for family and friends and feeding her pets and other animals.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Spanomanolis and husband, Dinos, of Keedysville, Md.; her son, Larry Frye and wife, Carol, of Batavia, Ill.; her brother, John Russell Whittington, of Shepherdstown; her sister, Virginia M. Gross, of Boonsboro, Md.; six grandchildren, Annitsa, Elias, Emmanuel, Lane, Jonathan and Suzanne; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie “Dude” Frye, in 1994; her sister, Edith Ellis; and brothers, Louis and Walter Whittington.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, with Father Peter Grasso officiating. Interment was in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
