Upton Martin Day scheduled

Saturday, Sept. 22 will be observed as Upton Martin Day in Shepherdstown. Come hear the remarkable stories about Upton Martin, Sr. and Upton Martin, Jr. and their impact on Shepherdstown as told by Upton Martin, III and other family members. Learn how Uptom Martin, Sr., former mayor, movedc a 40-foot, 10-ton water wheel and how he built the Shepherdstown Opera House, the first gas station (now Blue Moon) and supplied electricity.

Tour the Yellow Brick Bank as if it were still the Jefferson Security Bank of years past from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Visit the Thomas Shepherd Grist Mill for tours and a presentation to Mayor Jim Auxer by the Upton family at 12:30 p.m. A question and answer session with the Martin family will occur from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Opera House.
