By Staff | Oct 1, 2012

The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic is hosting the 6th annual Tastes and Sounds of the Town fundraiser at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown, WV on Saturday Oct. 13, 2012 from 6 to 10 p.m.

Prepare yourself for some of the best dishes and cuisine that regional restaurants have to offer and to be entertained by local musicians, physicians, and even physicians who are musicians! The Cash Bar will be from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by Tastes of the Town starting at 7 p.m. This fun evening will also host an auction featuring vacation getaways, WVU tickets, gift baskets, gym memberships, gift certificates and more.

The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic has been providing free medical care to low-income and uninsured area residents who are unable to afford healthcare on their own since 2001, when local nurses recognized a dire need for healthcare to be available to all residents. It began as a one room, one day a week, all volunteer based operation. As unemployment and underemployment grew, so did the demand for the clinic. They are now in a 2,400 sq. ft. facility with 21 staff and dozens of volunteers. The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic is instrumental in the health of local residents, providing free medical care, free prescriptions and free referrals to medical specialists. Each year the clinic provides more than 10,000 patient visits and dispenses an astonishing $5 million worth of prescription medications.

In order to continue accommodating the health care needs of area residents, fundraisers play a crucial role in keeping the clinic running. Tickets for Tastes and Sounds of the Town are $50 per person. To purchase tickets, make a donation or for more information please visit www.tastesandsounds.org.
