Charles Town Opera House presents The Sugar Bean Sisters
The perfect way to usher in the Halloween season, ‘The Sugar Bean Sisters’ takes one to the swamps and sugarcane fields of Florida to meet the Nettle Sisters, two women determined to escape spinsterhood; Willie Mae by going to Salt Lake City to find a good Mormon husband and Faye by jumping on the spaceship when the “space people” return for another visit. When a disturbance in the sugarcane fields lures the sisters outside to investigate and a strange bird-like woman appears, the Sugar Bean Sisters hatch a diabolical and comical plot to ensure the space people’s return.
Director Will Heyser has assembled a wonderful cast who are almost as quirky in their own right as the characters they are portraying; including Amy Hebb, Shari Shrewsberry Martin, Karen Paone, Rene Farabaugh and Keith Shifflett.
This may be the only chance this season to see a show anywhere within driving distance of Charles Town that includes both an alien abduction and an outhouse on the same stage.
The show runs Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. at a ticket price of $17 for adults and $8 for students. Matinees are offered on Oct. 21 and 28 at a cost of $15 for adults and $8 for students.
