Shepherd’s Faculty Research Forum continues Oct. 10
Shepherd University’s Faculty Research Forum will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at noon with panel presentations on the 2012 general election in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies. The panel will include Dr. Mark Stern, university professor and professor of political science, with “Presidential Power and the Evolution of the Modern President”; Dr. Stephanie Slocum-Schaffer, department chair and associate professor of political science, with “Women Voters in the 2012 Election and Beyond”; and Dr. Max Guirguis, associate professor of political science, with “Campaign Mistakes and Oppertunities.”
“Presidential Power and the Evolution of the Modern President” will examine the evolution of presidential power in the United States. It examines the basis of the shift toward a more activist president, focusing on the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
“Women Voters in the 2012 Election and Beyond” will examine what role women play in the 2012 election and beyond. By considering historical trends in the participation of women as elected leaders, candidates, fundraisers and voters, predictions can be made about the role of women in the upcoming election and whether women are on their way to overcoming what researchers call the “pipeline problem.”
“Campaign Mistakes and Opportunities” will discuss the opportunities and mistakes that President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have made in the 2012 campaign for the U.S. presidency.
The Faculty Research Forum at Shepherd University is a monthly lecture series implemented by the faculty and designed to highlight the current scholarship of Shepherd faculty members. Presentations are drawn from across the campus community and are presented free of charge to faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
