$14,000 raised at 6th annual Tastes and Sounds of the Town

By Staff | Oct 25, 2012

The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic raised $14,000 to help provide medical care to uninsured patients thanks to the 6th Annual Tastes and Sounds of the Town, held Oct. 13, at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown.

“We’re so thankful to the restaurants, entertainers and those who offered gifts for the action and raffle. The funds raised from this event are going to a worthy cause, and will be truly appreciated by our staff and patients. We can’t wait to do it again next year,” says Vicki Shean, development manager of Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic.

Caterer, Gourmet Cooke won the best food and the best display award, while Dr. Adrienne Zavala and her husband, Hector Zavala were named the favorite entertainers. Attendees spent the evening mingling, dining and were entertained by local musicians, physicians and even physicians who are musicians!

“We’d especially like to thank our sponsors Shepherd University, City National Bank, Jamie L. Davis, CPA, Hinkle Law, Daniel and Jeannette VanBelleghem, Dr. Vikram Dayal, Dr. and Mrs. Vittivelu Maheswaran, Skinner Law Firm and Minghini’s General Contractors, Inc. This event wouldn’t be possible without them,” noted Shean.

The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic has been providing free medical care to low-income and uninsured area residents who are unable to afford healthcare on their own since 2001, when local nurses recognized a dire need for healthcare to be available to all residents. The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic is instrumental in the health of local residents, providing free medical care, free prescriptions and free referrals to medical specialists. Each year the clinic provides more than 10,000 patient visits and dispenses an astonishing $5 million dollars worth of prescription medications.
