The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will offer a special children’s event at its Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve in Berkeley County on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The event will be for children ages 6-9. They will learn first-hand about wetlands and the creatures that live there as an adult instructor guides them around the Preserve’s ponds, marshy areas, woods and edge habitats.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a $5 fee for each child.

Enrollment will be strictly limited to ensure that all children receive personal attention, and pre-registration is required.

The Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve is located in Back Creek Valley, one-half mile south of Shanghai, on the east side of Back Creek Valley Road (County Route 7).

his event is part of a new program, called “Outdoor Explore!”, which is intended to give youngsters a better understanding and appreciation of the natural world in a safe, supervised way. Its activities include hiking, exploration of different local habitats, plant and animal identification, and other natural science activities. All sessions are aimed at children ages 6-9.

Jan Hummer, an experienced natural science educator, is leading each program session.

The program is being made possible by a grant from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
