Shepherd’s Center for Teaching and Learning staff to present at national conference
Victoria Buchbauer, director of career services at Shepherd University, and Emily Gross, director of academic support center at Shepherd, will present for Shepherd’s Center for Teaching and Learning’s First Year Experience (FYEX) at the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) national conference in Denver, Colo., in February 2013
The presentation will include a review of the methods and findings for the FYEX 102 course “Oh the Places You’ll Go.” The course provides students an opportunity to develop a close-knit community of learners who share the common quest of declaring a major. The presentation will include data tracking the history of major declarations of class attendees from two cohorts. The program is in its second year at Shepherd and has been a positive experience for undeclared first-year students.
NADE seeks to improve the theory and practice of developmental education at all levels of the educational spectrum, as well as the professional capabilities of developmental educators and the design of programs to prepare developmental educators.
